Violin is one of the most interesting instruments which found its way into Indian classical music from the Western world. This course introduces students to the basics bowing and fingering techniques in violin , followed by by Sarali Varisais. This course is ideal for an absolute beginner level student who wishes to get acquainted with the instrument.
What will you learn?
Once a student is familiar with the basics of how to play the violin, he or she can embark onto playing the other varisais. This course deals with the basic varisais in Carnatic Music like Janta Varisai , Dhaatu Varisai , Upper and Mandra Sthaayi Varisais followed by Alankarams.
Geethams are the first lyrical compositions which are introduced to a Carnatic Music student. In this course , a variety of geethams ranging from basic ragas like Malahari , Mohanam , Suddha Saveri to advanced ragas like Kalyani , Khamboji etc will be taught . While learning each Geetham , basic Gamakas governing the respective raga will also be introduced to the student. In addition to Geethams , Jathiswarams (simple melodic swara based patterns) will also be taught to students.

Varnams help a student to get acquainted with the different shades of a raga . Prominent Carnatic music compositions , i.e. Kritis begins at this level.The Gamakas and aesthetics of each raga will be explored in detail in Varnams and the same will be applied to the Kriti taught in the same or allied raga. Apart from these , other simpler musical types like Swarajathis and Nottuswaras will also be taught here.
This course delves further into Varnams in Basic Melakartha Ragas like Shankarabharanam , Kalyani , Mayamalavagoula etc and Vakra ragas like Darbar , Saranga etc. This is ideal for intermediate level students of Carnatic Music who are already familiar with basic raga varnams (i,e Mohanam , Hamsadhwani , Abogi etc). Apart from this , a lot of splendid compositions by the Trinities , Swathi Tirunal , Papanasam Sivan etc will also be taught.
Veena is amongst the oldest and the most divine of all Carnatic instrument . Even Goddess Saraswathi , who is the embodiment of music is depicted playing the Veena. This course is ideally suited for first time learners. The basic of the instrument and introductory Sarali Varisai , along with a few exercises , will be taught at this stage.

Mridangam is an ancient musical instrument primarily used to provide rhythm accompaniment to recitals.This course covers the fundamentals of Mridangam - the basic strokes , Konnakol and Farance.

This is an advanced level course in Mridangam. The student will be taught play basic Nadai accompaniment for Geethams , Jathiswarams , Swarajathis , Varnams and Kritis . Typically pieces in Adhi and Roopaka thalams set to Tisra and Chathurasra Nadais.Other Jathis like Misram and Khantam will also be covered based on the level of proficiency and interest of the student.
